Ban on larger electronic devices in cabin luggage comes into effect

The ban to be implemented on laptops and tablets in cabin baggage on flights from Turkey and some countries in the Middle East and North Africa to the US and UK has come into effect. According to the officials, the devices larger than a smartphone must be kept in hold because such devices could contain explosives.

The UK restrictions apply to six countries whereas the US ban covers eight countries. Nine airlines from eight countries are affected by US ban namely Morocco, Turkey, Egypt, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar.

Ban imposed by UK on the other hand affects all flights out of Lebanon, Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Turkish President has urged to lift the ban as soon as possible. The US Department for Homeland Security has cited attacks on planes and airports over the past two years to be the reason for the ban.

According to the aviation experts, the ban could drop airline profits due to fall in passenger numbers and degrading customer satisfaction.
