The Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), the organization responsible for enforcing Covid-19 reduction initiatives, has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to cancel all pre-scheduled flights for the time being.
The CCMC had earlier agreed to make it compulsory for most of those coming back home on chartered flights to remain under hotel quarantine a week before heading home. The CCMC letter on Monday said they would have to accept the opportunity as the quarantine facility had yet to be adequately arranged.
After the announcement of the CCMC, several embassies in labor destination countries have begun giving warning on the discontinuance of scheduled chartered flights. On Monday the CCMC had written separately to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to ask the concerned Nepali embassies to cancel the chartered flights until further notice.
Over 40 flights were expected to fly during the fifth month of the repatriation period which was initially planned to last until 31 August.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) had permitted international airlines based in Nepal to operate over 30 repatriation flights during the phase. International airlines will conduct around 10 flights.
