Strategic Agreement between the Nepalese and Indian government related to air routes

Indian government has agreed on providing the required air routes to Nepal. In the meeting between the officials of the civil aviation authorities of both countries held in New Delhi on Tuesday, the agreement was finalized strategically for the addition of the air routes.

The discussion has been going on between the countries about the airspace and other aviation related topics. Representing Nepal in the meeting was Secretary Suresh Acharya of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation and on behalf of India, Secretary Mr. Arun Kumar of Ministry of Civil Aviation sat down for the negotiations. The meetings will continue till Wednesday.

Right now, the aircraft belonging to international airlines pass only through the Simara route due to which Nepal has been facing problems relating to air traffic.

The Nepalese representatives have urged to provide air routes through Janakpur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar.

But, the Indian team has expressed that the permission for the air route can only be granted through Janakpur at the recent times while the permission for provision of other routes requires to be discussed further.
