Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he is satisfied with the physical progress of the under construction Pokhara Regional International Airport after his inspection yesterday. He said he was happy with the pace of project that was inaugurated on 13th April, 2016 (Baishak 1st, 2073) when he was Prime Minister last time.
Within 9 months tenure 15 percent of the overall task has been completed, reported project head Binesh Munkarmi.
PM Oli said, “I would like to thank the supporters from the neighboring countries, China and India, for contributing in construction work of Pokhara International Airport. I am pleased to know that the construction work is going on with intensity. I have also directed the authority to accomplish the task within time frame.” He added Pokhara Regional International Airport will also open way for the development of Gandaki Province increasing the frequency of tourists and make the state economically stronger.
He had also asked about other infrastructures like roads and bridges essential after the the completion of the project. PM Oli had also quenched his queries regarding up-gradatation project of Prithivi Highway and Bijayapur bridge. The Authority had informed to construct four lane road on Prithivi Highway for Airport entrance and another add another bridge on Bijayapur river.
Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari had also came along with honorable minister KP Oli on the program. He informed the construction work of the Airport’s terminal building will be started from August, 2018. The project will progress by two times after six months, he said. Likewise, other infrastructures including runway will be finished by 2019. Further, he expects that the project will be accomplished by 2021.
The airport is listed as one of the national pride projects which is being constructed in 3700 ropani land. The runway of the airport will be 2500 meters long and 60 meters width. The construction project of the international airport was started with loan assistance of 22 billion from Exim Bank of China and Chinese company CAMC engineering was awarded for the contract of construction work.
Currently, group of 50 technical groups, 20 Nepalese including 30 Chinese are intensifying the construction of the airport with 6 tippers, drill machines and other items imported from China.
